• Visual Media Lab Workshop: Virtual Cinematography
    2023

How will film and TV shows be produced with new technologies in the future? What new skills will we need in the process? How will virtual worlds, visual effects and animations be created? International speakers from the film industry will discuss these questions during the event on the topics of virtual production, high dynamic range and wide color gamut.

After a five-year break, the Visual Media Lab (VML), an institute integrated into the Audiovisual Media program of Hochschule der Medien, Stuttgart is organizing a VML conference in March 2023. Focussing on topics such as virtual production, high dynamic range and wide color gamut, speakers from the industry are also welcome to network with other experts and talented students. The top-class speakers will offer exciting lectures on the topics color management, extended realities, LED lighting technology, and many more. Among others, the image design team of the Netflix series "1899" will be present.

A look into the future of moving images

Throughout lectures and panel discussions, the topics of virtual production, high dynamic range and wide color gamut will create cross-connections between the three main topics of technology, visual effects and cinematography. All those interested in the film and TV industry plus the technology behind the scenes are invited. The program starts on March 8 with lectures on Art, Science and Technology on the respective topics of "Virtual Production, High Dynamic Range and Wide Color Gamut". The second day will deal with "VFX and Production Design" and the lectures on the third day will cover the topics "Virtual Cinematography, LED-Lighting & Colour".

The fourth day of the conference consists of a working session of the world's first scientific journal for cinematography "CITO", for which interested professionals and students can register at no charge. The focus will be on researching and teaching Virtual Cinematography with discussion panels and round table talks.

Hochschule der Medien, Stuttgart is in close cooperation and collaboration with the networks of the film technology organization "Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers" (SMPTE), the "Visual Effects Society" (VES) and the professional associations for cinematography (BVK, IMAGO).
